Excel surprises Fnatic in LEC Spring Split week 4

Excel Esports Upset Fnatic in LEC Spring Split

Excel Esports pulled off a surprising win against Fnatic in week four of the 2022 LEC Spring Split. This victory improved their season record to 4-5.

In today’s League of Legends match, Excel faced off against Fnatic. Fnatic, who were tied for second place going into the match, were considered the favorites to win. However, Excel proved them wrong. With this win, Excel moved closer to the top six in the standings, while Fnatic’s hopes of breaking away from G2 were dashed.

Fnatic made an attempt to surprise Excel in the draft by picking Rell as their support, paired up with Upset’s Jhin. However, Excel’s AD carry, Patrik, secured the first blood, while Upset managed to get a kill on Mikyx while basing to even things out.

The first impactful fight of the game occurred around the nine-minute mark when Fnatic tried to invade Excel’s red buff area. Although Excel initially gained an advantage, Fnatic managed to grab some kills and even the playing field.

While the gold balance was relatively even in the early game, Fnatic started to gain control through the efforts of their jungler, Razork. They applied pressure in the bottom lane and secured the first turret of the game, establishing dominance in the bottom half of the map.

Excel responded by focusing on the top side of the map and taking down their first tower. Excel’s jungler, Markoon, used this advantage to engage Hylissang and secure kills for Excel.

During a dragon fight, Excel wiped out four members of Fnatic, securing the dragon and later the Baron. With a 6,000 gold lead and empowered lanes, Excel pushed into Fnatic’s base. Although Fnatic managed to kill Patrik, it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. Excel took down the rest of Fnatic and destroyed their Nexus, sealing the win.

Fnatic’s loss to Excel marks their third loss in the past two weeks, dropping them to a 6-3 record. Meanwhile, Excel improved their regular season ranking, finishing the first half of the Spring Split with a 4-5 record in seventh place.

What’s Next for Excel and Fnatic?

After this upset victory against Fnatic, Excel will look to build momentum as they face off against Team Vitality and BDS in week five. Their goal is to secure their first playoff berth. On the other hand, Fnatic will start their week against SK and then face Vitality in their pursuit of second place in the LEC.
