Excel struggles against G2 Esports in the ninth week of the Summer Split, fail to qualify for LEC playoffs for the sixth split in a row

Excel Misses LEC Playoffs for the 6th Consecutive Split

Excel’s hopes of reaching the postseason were dashed as they suffered a 30-minute defeat against G2 Esports in the final game of the 2021 LEC regular season. This loss marks Excel’s failure to qualify for the LEC playoffs for the sixth split in a row.

A Disappointing Game for Excel

Despite showing promise early on, Excel couldn’t maintain their momentum. They had a chance to secure victory after catching G2 off guard in a mid-game teamfight, but G2 quickly turned the tide in their favor.

G2’s mid laner, Caps, played exceptionally well during the match, dominating with a scoreline of 6/2/7 on Lissandra, which accounted for 23% of G2’s total gold.

Youthful Players Couldn’t Deliver the Win

If Excel wanted to win, they needed strong performances from their younger players who had carried them through the latter half of the regular season. Unfortunately, the entire roster failed to meet the high standards they had set earlier in the week.

Excel made changes to their roster four weeks ago, bringing in prominent rookies Markoon and Adrienne in the jungle and support roles respectively. Although they posted a respectable record of 5-6 with the new additions, their late-season efforts fell short. Excel finished just one game away from a playoff spot, extending their playoff drought for the sixth time.

Vitality Secures the Final Playoff Spot

As a result of Excel’s failure to reach the Summer Split playoffs, Team Vitality has clinched the sixth and final postseason berth. Vitality’s perfect 3-0 superweek performance propelled them to the playoffs, giving them a chance to qualify for the World Championship later this year. The other contenders, Astralis and SK Gaming, missed out on the playoff opportunity.

Excel will now focus on rebuilding during the offseason. After participating in six consecutive LEC splits without reaching the playoffs, the organization aims to regroup and come back stronger.
