Evil Geniuses secure spot in 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs with win against CLG’s Academy team

Evil Geniuses Secures Spot in 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs

After eight weeks of action-packed matches, the stage is set for the 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs. Evil Geniuses (EG) sealed their spot among the top six teams with a convincing victory over CLG Academy.

EG, determined to prove their doubters wrong, faced off against the debuting CLG Academy roster in their final match of the regular season. The win not only secured EG’s place in the playoffs but also eliminated Dignitas from contention. However, the final rankings for EG, Golden Guardians, and FlyQuest between fourth and sixth place have yet to be determined.

CLG Academy Makes Impressive LCS Debut

The LCS stage witnessed the debut of CLG Academy, as CLG’s elimination from playoff contention prompted this move. Four new players made their LCS debut alongside top laner Dhokla, who returned with a vengeance. To everyone’s surprise, Dhokla chose Vayne as his champion, countering the dominant top lane veteran Impact’s Renekton. However, Vayne struggled to make an impact early on.

Jojopyun’s LeBlanc solo kill on Triple’s Ahri in the mid lane became the turning point for EG. Jojopyun’s four kills within the first 15 minutes, mostly secured by catching CLG Academy off guard, gave EG a clear win condition that they successfully maintained throughout the match.

EG Dominates with Danny’s Zeri

Danny’s Zeri scored a triple kill in the mid lane by diving multiple towers, further expanding EG’s advantage. With an over 8,000 gold lead even before Baron spawned, EG solidified their position in the top six of the LCS and secured a spot in the Spring Playoffs.

EG and CLG Academy Continue Their Journey

Jojopyun’s exceptional performance, ending with a 6/0/8 KDA, earned them the title of player of the game. Despite facing tough opponents in their LCS debut, CLG Academy gained valuable experience on the main stage, adding to their first-place finish in the 2022 NA Academy Spring Split. They will now navigate the LCS Proving Grounds lower bracket, aiming for another first-place finish.

Playoff Picture and Future Prospects

EG’s victory secures their spot in the playoffs alongside Cloud9, Team Liquid, 100 Thieves, FlyQuest, and Golden Guardians. Unfortunately, Dignitas has been eliminated from contention, joining Immortals, TSM, and CLG in waiting for the Summer Split.

The final placements for the top six teams in the playoffs will be determined by today’s matches. Fourth through sixth place remain up for grabs between EG, Golden Guardians, and FlyQuest. Tiebreaker matches may be necessary and are expected to take place after today’s scheduled games.

Note: We apologize for incorrectly referring to the 2022 LCS Spring Playoffs as the Mid-Season Showdown. The Mid-Season Showdown only encompasses the final two days of playoffs.
