Evil Geniuses Reportedly Revamps LCS Roster, Parting Ways with 4 Star Players

Evil Geniuses Looks to Overhaul Roster with Four Departures

The offseason for North America’s top League of Legends organization, Evil Geniuses, is already underway. According to esports journalist Alejandro Gomis’ report on Blix.gg, the team is planning to off-load four superstars from its League division in a massive roster overhaul. This decision comes after a disappointing performance during the 2023 Spring Split, where Evil Geniuses finished fifth in the regular season and made an early playoff exit against Golden Guardians.

The departures will include top laner Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho, jungler Kacper “Inspired” Słoma, AD carry Victor “FBI” Huang, and veteran support Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme. If this decision goes through, the only remaining member from the team’s 2022 LCS trophy run will be Joseph “jojopyun” Pyun, who is signed until November 2024.

While replacements for the departing players have not been discussed, esports content creator Travis Gafford has reported that Evil Geniuses plans to invest heavily in the upcoming 2023 Summer Split. The organization aims to cut costs after being at the higher end of spending in the league.

This roster overhaul mirrors the approach of other LCS teams, such as TSM, who reportedly spent less on their lineup for 2023. The league also recently bid farewell to Counter Logic Gaming, as the organization sold its franchise spot to NRG and closed down its esports divisions.

As a result of the departures, four top-tier players will become available in the free agency market. These players will be in high demand for teams aiming to make a strong playoff push and compete in the 2023 World Championship in South Korea. Each of the departing players brings valuable experience and the potential to elevate any roster.
