Evil Geniuses Announces Danny’s Absence at 2022 LCS Championship Finals for Mental Health Prioritization

Evil Geniuses’ Star AD Carry Danny Not Competing at 2022 LCS Championship Finals

The 2022 LCS Championship finals will not feature Evil Geniuses’ Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki, following a hard-fought five-game series against Team Liquid last weekend.

In a statement, Evil Geniuses CEO Nicole LaPointe expressed her understanding and support for Danny’s decision. She commended his courage and self-awareness in stepping back from play, considering his care for his teammates and the current situation.

Danny, who is only 18 years old, has been an instrumental part of EG’s success over the past year. He gained the nickname “King of Pentakills” due to his remarkable performance as one of the youngest and most exciting members of the roster. However, the pressures of professional play, especially at such a young age, can be overwhelming.

During the 2022 LCS Summer Split, Danny emerged as the best-performing marksman in the league. With 88 kills and a 7.5 KDA, he showcased his exceptional teamfight positioning and mechanics, becoming a front-facing figure in the youth movement of the region.

However, during the playoffs, Danny’s performance has been lackluster. He has accumulated 11 deaths due to poor positioning and decision-making, already surpassing his regular season count. Taking a break at this time is crucial to safeguard his mental well-being.

LaPointe emphasized that Danny is a valued member of the EG family, and they will continue to offer their support. She urged the LCS community to show unwavering support and empathy towards Danny.

EG has yet to announce Danny’s temporary replacement, although Muhammed Hasan “Kaori” Şentürk from the academy roster is an option. EG will face 100 Thieves on Saturday, September 10 at 3pm CT.

Following their victory over Liquid, EG secured their qualification for Worlds 2022. It remains uncertain if Danny will rejoin EG for Worlds after the LCS playoffs.
