Evil Geniuses AD Carry Danny Reflects on Rookie Season after LCS Championship Loss

Last night, Evil Geniuses (EG) suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of Cloud9 in the 2021 LCS Championship. After the disappointing loss, EG AD carry Danny spoke with to reflect on his breakout rookie season.

Despite the unfavorable end to the season, Danny, who was named LCS Rookie of the Year, is already looking ahead to 2022 with a strong desire to continue playing in the LCS.

Danny joined EG just three months ago, right before the start of the Summer Split. At that time, EG had recently been eliminated in the first round of the Spring Split playoffs and had an average performance leading up to the second half of the season.

However, Danny’s arrival completely transformed EG into one of the top teams in North America’s League of Legends scene. With a record of 18-9 in the summer split, EG tied for the best overall record in the LCS.

Speaking to , Danny shared his surprise at the sudden promotion to the LCS. The decision was based on his performance and knowledge during the Amateur and Academy teams’ Proving Grounds tournament. He proved himself capable and ready to compete at the highest level.

Danny’s journey to the LCS stage was unprecedented as he quickly progressed from EG Prodigies, the organization’s amateur team, straight to the main LCS roster. This distinctive path made him the first amateur-level player to skip the Academy scene before debuting in the LCS.

Although the transition was initially challenging, Danny welcomed the opportunity with open arms. Despite only playing half a season, he earned second-team LCS All-Pro honors and received the Rookie of the Year award. His impact on EG was unrivaled compared to any other rookie in North America.

While Danny admitted there was a slim chance he might return to school after high school, his dedication to League of Legends and skipping his graduation ceremony affirmed his commitment to the game. He believes the risk he took by joining the LCS was well worth it.

With several months until the next LCS game, Danny plans to use this time to further improve his skills and game knowledge. His ultimate goal is to surpass other top players in North America, particularly 100 Thieves ADC FBI, who received more first-place votes in this season’s All-Pro award.

Danny and EG recently faced a challenging five-game playoff series against FBI and 100 Thieves, resulting in a loss. However, Danny made a name for himself during the 2021 season with an impressive pentakill as Tristana, which was hailed as the “play of the season.”

Danny’s outstanding performance marks his rapid rise to stardom. With his contract with EG lasting until 2023, fans can expect even more remarkable plays from this young star in the future.

Reflecting on his journey, Danny expressed gratitude for the opportunity he was given. He recognizes the shift in how the community perceived him, transforming from an unknown player to someone highly regarded within the community.
