European League Superstar Contemplating Role Swap in Offseason: Reports

Former G2 AD Carry Rekkles Considers Switching to Support Role

Fans of competitive League of Legends may soon witness another professional player switching roles during the off-season. Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, the former AD Carry for G2 Esports, is reportedly open to exploring options as a support player when free agency begins. This news comes after his reported departure from the LFL organization Karmine Corp, according to esports journalist Brieuc Seeger.

A Shift in Rekkles’ Career

Throughout his career, Rekkles has been an iconic figure in League of Legends, achieving four LEC championships, four MVP awards, and several All-Pro awards. He even holds the record for being the first player to reach 2,000 kills in the LEC. Rekkles spent most of his career with Fnatic before joining G2 in 2021, surprising many fans and analysts.

G2’s Unfulfilled Potential

Despite high expectations, G2’s stacked roster, including Rekkles, failed to win any championships within nine months. Their lack of synergy hindered their success, despite the individual firepower of their veteran superstars. This underperformance led Rekkles to consider a change in his role.

Rekkles’ Struggles with Buyout Prices

Rekkles faced challenges in finding an LEC team willing to pay his high buyout price of 1.5 million euros. As a result, he joined Karmine Corp in the LFL. Interestingly, this issue has also affected G2’s jungler Jankos, who is currently struggling to find a team for 2023 due to his expensive buyout price.

A Transition from AD Carry to Support

Rekkles wouldn’t be the first AD carry to switch to the support role. Other successful examples include Team Liquid’s CoreJJ and Cloud9’s Zven. The success of Rekkles’ transition will depend on the team he joins, but his game knowledge and mechanical skill should facilitate his switch to support.
