Europe Urgently Requires Improved Macro Strategies

Europe’s Performance at Worlds 2016: Room for Improvement in Macro Play

Europe’s teams had a rough start at Worlds 2016, losing all three games on the first day against Counter Logic Gaming, AHQ, and Samsung Galaxy. One area where EU fans hoped to see improvement was in their macro play, which involves concepts like objective control and overall vision control. These weaknesses were clearly exploited in the opening matches.

It’s important to note that these teams still have five more games to turn things around. Let’s not panic, as EU is not doomed to repeat NA’s performance at the 2015 Worlds when none of the NA teams made it past the round-of-eight.

Ward coverage was a significant issue for EU teams, with only H2K securing a single dragon and no team grabbing Baron, missing out on crucial game-changing objectives. Questions were raised about G2’s map control, particularly Luka “PerkZ” Perković’s lack of roaming from the mid lane.

However, I believe it is too soon to be discouraged. As we head into the second day of competition, it’s time for the region to step up and demonstrate their value as a whole. We’ve already seen INTZ e-Sports defeat strong opponents, proving that the favorites can be beaten. It’s up to EU to show they are title contenders against the LCK, LPL, LMS, NA LCS, and IWC regions.

If they fail to do so, they might find themselves with an early vacation.
