Europe and Korea dominate on the first day of Worlds 2020 group stage

The Exciting Start of the League of Legends World Championship

The much-awaited group stage of the 2020 League of Legends World Championship is finally underway, and teams are already battling it out for early victories in the tournament.

Teams from Europe (LEC) and South Korea (LCK) had a great start on the first day of groups, winning all their matches against their respective opponents. However, things got intense for teams in Groups B, C, and D.

Strong Start for Korea at Worlds

Before the tournament began, there was a lot of discussion among fans and analysts about which region would dominate this year’s Worlds. China seemed like a strong contender, given their back-to-back wins in the previous tournaments. However, Korea made a powerful statement with DAMWON Gaming defeating JD Gaming, DRX winning against Unicorns of Love, and Gen.G beating LGD Gaming. While the first two games were one-sided, the last match was a tough battle between two determined teams.

These victories are a significant achievement for the LCK, considering their lackluster performance in recent World Championships. Korean teams have disappointed fans with early exits and unexpected losses in previous tournaments. But these new contenders have given hope to their supporters with an impressive start.

Success for the LEC in the Group Stage

In a similar vein, Europe’s teams have also started the group stage undefeated. Rogue defeated PSG Talon, and Fnatic secured a crucial win against TSM from North America. LEC fans have plenty to celebrate, although these matches were not the toughest they will face in the groups. G2 Esports will make their Worlds 2020 debut against Suning Gaming on day two.

Winning the first match at Worlds is crucial for any team, regardless of the group they are in. Momentum plays a significant role, and a strong start can make all the difference in progressing to the knockout stage.

Don’t Count Teams Out Yet

While it may be tempting to underestimate teams from the LPL, LCS, CIS, or PCS after their losses, it’s essential to remember that upsets happen frequently in League of Legends. FunPlus Phoenix suffered defeats against J Team and Splyce in the 2019 World Championship, despite being a top team.

JDG fans should not be overly concerned, as DAMWON is expected to be their toughest opponent in the group. TSM fans may be disappointed by their loss to Fnatic, but there is still a chance for them to surprise their opponents as the group stage progresses.

This year’s competition is different, and a single loss should not determine a team’s fate. Whether in the Group of Life or the Group of Death, teams can turn things around with impressive winning streaks to secure a spot in the playoffs.
