The regular season of the EU LCS came to an exciting end last weekend, surprising everyone as H2k Gaming and ROCCAT made it into the playoffs.
Week 9’s results also disrupted fantasy expectations, so let’s take a look at the fantasy action in Europe and see where we can improve.
EU LCS Week 9 Friday
There was good and bad news for our fantasy picks on Friday.
The Fnatic match paid off well, especially when we chose Martin “Rekkles” Larsson as captain. He scored the highest fantasy points of the day at 95.17 points. His teammates Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen and Rasmus “Caps” Winther also did well. However, things weren’t as smooth for other teams.
ROCCAT had a great fantasy day as they played against Misfits, who have given up the least fantasy points all season. This led to players like Jin “Blanc” Sung-min scoring big with 76.73 points.
H2k Gaming also had a big day. Despite their poor fantasy performance earlier in the season, they have played exceptionally well in the second half and proved themselves as a solid pick.
Sit — Fnatic Top Lane
Considering the split time between Gabriel “Bwipo” Rau and Paul “sOAZ” Boyer, we advised caution regarding Fnatic’s top lane. However, if you paid attention to the starting lineups, putting Bwipo in on Friday worked well.
Sit — Jonas “Kold” Andersen, Jungle, Unicorns of Love, 21,400
Kold scored decently with 34.53 points, but he wasn’t a good pick at his high salary this week, especially since Unicorns of Love lost.
Start — Luka “PerkZ” Perkovic, Mid, G2 Esports, 20,100
PerkZ had an okay performance with 52.98 points in G2’s win over Unicorns of Love, but it wasn’t exceptional considering his potential.
Start — Martin “Rekkles” Larsson, ADC, Fnatic, 25,500
Our recommendation to captain Rekkles paid off as he scored the highest fantasy points of the day. He proved to be worth his high salary.
Sit — Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle, Support, Misfits, 17,450
Mikyx didn’t have a good week, scoring only 3.15 points. It’s a good thing you stayed away from him.
EU LCS Week 9 Saturday
The final day of the EU LCS regular season produced some exciting games, although there weren’t any matchups with huge fantasy potential.
H2k Gaming secured their spot in the playoffs by beating ROCCAT, but the match didn’t result in high kill tallies, so it wasn’t a significant loss in the fantasy column. Other match results went as expected.
The biggest winners were G2 Esports, who dominated Team Vitality and posted five of the top six fantasy scores. If you didn’t pick G2 players, it likely wasn’t a great day for you, considering they have been popular fantasy picks all season.
Our fantasy picks for Misfits and Splyce had decent performances, ranking second and third as a team on the day, which is impressive considering Fnatic was still in the mix. However, it wasn’t enough to beat those heavily invested in G2.
Start — Martin “Wunder” Hansen, Top, G2 Esports, 22,850
We heavily recommended at least one G2 player. Wunder’s 89.05 points secured him a solid sixth place overall and first at the top lane position.
Sit — Mads “Broxah” Brock-Pedersen, Jungle, Fnatic, 18,900
Despite Fnatic’s victory against Schalke, it wasn’t a huge fantasy day for them. However, Broxah’s 64.56 points made him a good pick from the jungle even at his salary.
Start — Jin “Blanc” Sung-min, Mid, ROCCAT, 11,950
Blanc had a dominant performance on Friday, but H2k Gaming’s strong push for the playoffs left him struggling on Saturday. Blanc scored 47.43 points in the loss, which is decent but not exceptional for the mid lane slot.
Sit — Samuel Fernandez “Samux” Fort, ADC, Unicorns of Love, 22,900
Playing against Misfits is usually not a good fantasy matchup, and Samux couldn’t overcome that. His 36.25 points were poor for such a high-salaried player.
Start — Raymond “kaSing” Tsang, Support, Splyce, 8,400
Despite being one of the lowest-scoring supports, kaSing had an impressive fantasy tally with 78.12 points. This was a huge win for such a cheap pick.
While there were a couple of upsets courtesy of H2k Gaming this week in Europe, the rest of the week mostly went as expected for fantasy. Fnatic and G2 Esports, the league’s top fantasy teams, each had one fantasy-winning day and didn’t disappoint on the other days.
If you heavily invested in these two teams and found a couple of solid value picks, the final week of the EU LCS would have been great for your fantasy team.
Fantasy MVP: Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss, ADC, G2 Esports
Hjarnan was the highest-scoring player of the week. He started with a score of 69.08 on Friday, ranked third in his position, but then posted an outstanding 107.04 on Saturday, leading all players by a significant margin. Although Rekkles produced more wins and was a popular captain choice, Hjarnan was the most valuable performer of the week.
Best Value: Marcin “SELFIE” Wolski, Mid, H2k Gaming
SELFIE’s addition to H2k Gaming midseason changed the team’s destiny and also produced great fantasy results. This week, SELFIE scored 68.91 and 73.33 points on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at a low salary.
