Essential Requirements for LEC Teams to Secure a Playoff Spot in the 2020 Summer Split

The 2020 LEC Summer Split Playoff Race Heats Up

The 2020 LEC Summer Split is reaching its climax with the playoffs just around the corner. The competition has been fierce, with only two games separating third place from ninth. With four spots at Worlds up for grabs, every team has a chance to make it to the biggest stage in professional League of Legends.

In determining the playoff teams, only the Summer Split performance matters. However, Championship Points earned from the Spring Split will be used to determine the seeding of the six teams selected from the Summer Split. Championship Points are awarded based on performance in the playoffs and regular season.

In case of a tie in Championship Points, the team that gained the most points in the Summer Split will hold the tiebreaker advantage.

Playoff Scenarios for Each Team

MAD Lions (11-4)

MAD Lions have already secured a playoff spot and can secure a top-two seed with just one win in their last three matches. If they go 0-3 and either G2 or SK go 3-0, a tiebreaker will be needed to determine the No. 2 seed.

Rogue (11-4)

Like MAD Lions, Rogue is guaranteed a playoff spot. They can secure a top-two seed by winning just one of their remaining matches. However, if they go 0-3 and G2 goes 3-0, G2 will move into second place due to a 2-0 record against Rogue in the regular split.

G2 Esports (8-7)

G2 Esports has had an up-and-down split and faces a tough road to secure a top-two seed. They need to win at least two of their last three matches to secure a playoff spot. However, if they only win one game, their fate will depend on the results of other teams.

SK Gaming (8-7)

SK Gaming has the same record as G2 and faces similar conditions to secure a playoff spot. However, their tough remaining schedule makes it more challenging. Winning two of their next three matches will give them a good chance to secure a tiebreaker game.

Excel Esports (7-8)

Excel Esports is one game out of third and in a playoff spot heading into the final week. Their matches against G2 and Fnatic will be crucial, and a win against Origen would help solidify their playoff position.

Fnatic (7-8)

Fnatic has had a tough split but has a chance to secure a playoff spot with wins in their remaining matches. They have a favorable schedule and can make it to the playoffs if they win at least two of their three matches.

Misfits Gaming (6-9)

Misfits, Origen, and Vitality are in a tight competition for a playoff spot. Misfits need to win at least two of their remaining matches and hope that other teams falter.

Origen (6-9)

Origen has dropped four matches in a row and faces a challenging road to the playoffs. They need to win their remaining matches and hope for other teams to stumble.

Team Vitality (6-9)

Vitality is in a tough position with a 0-2 record against Fnatic and Excel. They need to win at least two of their remaining matches and hope for other teams to struggle.

FC Schalke 04 (5-10)

Despite a rough start, Schalke has won four straight matches and is still in the hunt for a playoff spot. They need to win all their remaining matches and hope for other teams to stumble in order to have a chance.

The competition in the 2020 LEC Summer Split is intense, and every team is fighting for a spot in the playoffs. Stay tuned to see how the race unfolds!
