Emerging as top bot lane picks for Worlds 2023: 2 ADCs in League of Legends

League of Legends Champions Kai’Sa and Xayah Dominate Worlds 2023 Play-In Stage

In the early stages of the 2023 World Championship, two champions in League of Legends, Kai’Sa and Xayah, have risen to the top of the metagame and were the most frequently played in the Play-Ins.

According to champion statistics, Kai’Sa and Xayah were chosen the most in the Worlds 2023 Play-In stage, appearing in 24 and 19 matches, respectively.

Their popularity was followed closely by Rell and Rakan, both selected in 16 matches each. This signifies the importance of having powerful picks in the bot lane at this year’s World Championship.

Most Played Champions in Worlds 2023 Play-Ins

  • Kai’Sa – 24 games
  • Xayah – 19 games
  • Rell – 16 games
  • Rakan – 16 games
  • Renekton – 15 games
  • Nautilus – 13 games
  • Jarvan IV – 11 games

Although Kai’Sa and Xayah did not receive direct buffs or nerfs in League Patch 13.19, significant item changes in Patch 13.10 and the midseason update have improved their performance. These changes affected the way these ADCs utilize items and play their game.

While these champions may not excel among regular League players, professional players have proven their prowess. During the live run of Patch 13.19, Kai’Sa and Xayah were highly sought-after ADC picks with above-average win rates. They dominated this patch due to their high damage output, strong 1v1 potential, excellent teamfighting abilities, and survivability. With the right items, they become formidable on the Rift.

It’s not just one team consistently choosing these champions either. Players like PSG Talon’s Wako, Movistar R7’s Ceo, GAM’s Slayder, LOUD’s Route, CFO’s Shunn, and Team Whales’ Artemis have all showcased their skills using Xayah and Kai’Sa.

Because of their significant impact on the Play-Ins, these champions were either picked or banned. Xayah boasted a 100% pick-ban rate during this stage. Maokai was the only other champion to keep up, being present in every drafting phase but only getting through bans 10 times. Every time he was able to play, he showed up on the Rift.

As the tournament progresses, expect to see Kai’Sa and Xayah make a return during the Swiss stage starting on October 19. However, as the meta evolves, new and unconventional picks may also emerge.
