Evil Geniuses Parts Ways with Head Coach Irean

After a disappointing 2020 season, Evil Geniuses has decided to move on from head coach Heo “Irean” Yeong-cheol. This marks the end of Irean’s second stint with a North American team.

EG returned to the LCS at the start of the year by acquiring the spot from Echo Fox. The organization made some big signings during the offseason, bringing on Bang, Svenskeren, Zeyzal, and Jiizuke. It also added Irean as its head coach, who had previous experience with CLG.

In the 2020 Spring Split, the team finished in second place, but struggled in the playoffs against FlyQuest. In the following season, roster issues led to a drop to sixth place in the regular season standings. Once again, they were eliminated in the playoffs, this time by C9. The disappointing results indicated that changes needed to be made.

No roster moves have been confirmed yet, but Irean’s departure could signify larger changes for the team. Questions have been raised about the mid lane, with the presence of Jiizuke and Goldenglue. Goldenglue replaced Jiizuke in the last few weeks of the split.

As the 2020 offseason begins, we may see major moves for EG and other North American teams.
