EDG Stages Epic Reverse Sweep against RNG, Securing Third Seed for LPL at Worlds 2022

EDward Gaming secure LPL’s Third Seed for Worlds 2022 with a reverse sweep against Royal Never Give Up

Archrivals EDward Gaming and Royal Never Give Up clashed today to determine the LPL’s third seed for the upcoming 2022 League of Legends World Championship.

At first, it seemed like RNG was going to dominate the series. However, the defending world champions showed incredible resilience and managed to reverse sweep RNG, winning the series 3-2.

RNG came into the series well-prepared. In the first game, Breathe’s Jax and Xiaohu’s Taliyah shut down their EDG counterparts, making it difficult for EDG to make plays across the map.

Both RNG laners successfully caught the enemy team off-guard in multiple skirmishes, giving RNG the advantage and ultimately securing the win.

In game two, Breathe and Xiaohu continued to dominate. Their outstanding performance in teamfights, particularly in the mid game, coupled with Zeri’s late-game prowess, allowed RNG to snowball and secure back-to-back wins, reaching match point.

But EDG, the 2020 world champions, refused to be written off. In game three, Flandre’s Gragas pick turned the tides for EDG. His perfectly timed Explosive Cask either zoned out opponents or picked off out-of-position enemy champions.

Flandre’s plays became the foundation for EDG’s comeback and their first win of the series.

By this point, EDG had discovered that flanking the grouped-up five-man RNG team gave them a better chance of winning teamfights. Flandre and Scout executed this strategy multiple times in game four, helping EDG overcome a massive gold deficit and secure the win, forcing a decisive fifth game.

In the final game of the series, EDG completely dominated RNG. They outplayed their opponents with perfectly executed engages and ambushes. EDG’s champions didn’t even die once throughout the game, resulting in a victory for EDG in just 31 minutes.

With this victory, EDG secured the LPL’s third seed for Worlds 2022 through an impressive reverse sweep.

On the other hand, RNG still has a chance to make it to Worlds. They will need to defeat the winner between Victory Five and LNG Esports on Sept. 4 to secure the LPL’s fourth seed in the tournament.
