EDG Makes Official Announcement on IEM

EDward Gaming Unable to Attend IEM Katowice Due to Visa Issues

EDward Gaming (EDG) announced on their Weibo account the reasons behind their inability to participate in the upcoming IEM Katowice on Feb. 28. The team received the invitation on Jan. 27, 2017, and immediately started preparing their visa application documents.

Since the team follows the LPL schedule, they were only eligible to apply for visas from Shanghai. Chinese visa regulations require applicants to apply from their province of birth or the nearest one. So, even if someone lives in Shanghai but was born in Beijing, they need to apply for a visa from the Beijing embassy. This led to additional complications for EDG.

They were required to obtain residential status documentation to prove their current residence in Shanghai. This process took a significant amount of time. EDG communicated their difficulties to IEM, who offered their assistance. However, despite the team’s preparations for the event, they did not receive any confirmation from the Polish embassy about their visas being granted. Consequently, EDG had to inform IEM that they would be unable to attend.

EDG concluded their statement by wishing the participating teams the very best.
