DWG KIA’s ShowMaker, the mid laner, makes an opening pitch at baseball match

DWG KIA Mid Laner ShowMaker Throws First Pitch at KBO Baseball Game

Yesterday, the mid laner of DWG KIA and reigning League of Legends world champion, ShowMaker, had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at a KBO baseball game. He participated in the game between the KIA Tigers and the KT Wiz.

ShowMaker received some guidance from Choi Won-jun, an outfielder for the Kia Tigers, as he practiced his pitching mechanics for the ceremonial first pitch. Despite missing the strike zone, ShowMaker managed to impressively make his father swing and miss.

Cross-Promotional Event With Kia Tigers

Although DWG KIA is not owned by Kia Motors, like the Tigers, the two organizations have a strong partnership. They organized ShowMaker’s appearance at the baseball game as a cross-promotional event. Interestingly, after ShowMaker’s pitch, the Kia Tigers went on to defeat the first-place KT team with a score of 2-0.

Esports Superstars at Baseball Games

ShowMaker is not the first esports superstar to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game. In 2019, Overwatch pro Saebyeolbe started a New York Mets game when he was playing for the New York Excelsior. These two New York-based organizations were under the same majority ownership group until last fall.

Upcoming LCK Match for ShowMaker and DWG KIA

ShowMaker and DWG KIA will soon return to the LCK stage on Thursday, July 15, for an important late-season matchup against the third-place Nongshim RedForce.
