DraftKings Ventures into Fantasy Esports

The Future of Fantasy Esports: DraftKings Introduces New Product

The world of fantasy esports is about to undergo a major transformation.

Fantasy sports giant DraftKings, known for awarding over $1 billion in prize money in daily fantasy leagues for sports like football, is entering the world of fantasy esports. This move brings competition to popular esports startups such as Vulcun and Alphadraft.

Daily fantasy leagues allow players to compete in a new contest every day, earning money based on their ability to select a team of top-performing players. With contests available daily, various entry fees, and a range of prizes, players can engage with fantasy esports at their own pace.

DraftKings has not yet disclosed the launch date of its new product or the games it will feature. However, they have provided details on scoring for League of Legends, which will host its World Championship next month.

The scoring system follows a similar structure to other popular leagues like Vulcun. Players earn points based on their kills, assists, deaths, and creep score. Additionally, there is a twist: players receive a bonus if their team wins a best-of series early. They earn points for every game they do not have to play.

DraftKings has the potential to reshape the fantasy esports landscape. Compared to startups like Vulcun and Alphadraft, which have received millions in funding, DraftKings’ massive financial weight is undeniable. While Vulcun received over $10 million in seed money in the past year, DraftKings obtained $300 million in funding in July.

Furthermore, DraftKings already offers features that give it an edge over the competition, such as a mobile app for playing on the go. The company has also hinted at the launch of DraftKings HUD, similar to its Playbook website that provides fantasy sports advice.
