Dr. Mundo’s Return in the NA LCS Raises Eyebrows

Dr. Mundo’s Disappointing Return in League of Legends

Dr. Mundo made a surprising comeback to competitive League of Legends today in the NA LCS Regional Qualifier semifinal. However, his return didn’t go well for CLG.

Dr. Mundo was CLG’s last pick in the first game against FlyQuest. Paired with a mid lane Fiora, it wasn’t the best choice for CLG.

Once a fearsome top laner, Dr. Mundo is one of the oldest champions in League of Legends. He used to be one of the best top lane tanks with a massive health regeneration ultimate and high tanky stats.

Unfortunately, things have changed. Dr. Mundo is rarely seen in competitive play due to the introduction of Executioner’s Calling. This item applies grievous wounds, reducing Dr. Mundo’s healing by 40%. This greatly weakens his self-healing abilities.

CLG’s hopes of using Dr. Mundo as an asset were crushed when he died early in the top lane. With no crowd control abilities, he was useless in teamfights, especially against FlyQuest’s AD Carry who had built Executioner’s Calling.

After losing the first game, CLG decided to not pick Dr. Mundo again for the rest of the series. They went back to using top laners like Cho’Gath, which helped them win the series against FlyQuest.

With this poor showing, it’s unlikely that Dr. Mundo will make a comeback in the top lane meta until the grievous wounds debuff is nerfed.
