Doinb suggests LPL representatives may skip MSI 2022 without the option of remote games.

LPL Spring Split Winner May Miss MSI 2022 Due to COVID-19 Situation

The winner of the 2022 LPL Spring Split may not be able to participate in May’s Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) due to COVID-19 restrictions, revealed LNG’s Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang.

According to Doinb, the LPL representatives will likely have to play remotely at MSI 2022 or potentially not attend the tournament. This information was shared by Doinb during a recent stream. (Source: Doinb’s stream translated by cutebchu)

Due to the COVID-19 situation in Shanghai, China, the LPL representatives would need to quarantine for a total of 21 days after entering the city. This includes 14 days of centralized quarantine and seven days of health monitoring. While players could typically quarantine and still make it back in time for LPL Summer, this may not be possible this year.

Doinb emphasized the challenges faced by the LPL representatives, stating that it would be impossible for them to catch up on the Summer Split schedule. Therefore, the only viable option would be to play remotely.

Although the LPL representatives won’t have to quarantine in South Korea, they will need to quarantine for 21 days upon their return to China. This means that they won’t be able to participate in the upcoming condensed one-month-long Summer Split.

Summer Split Schedule Rumored to be Cut Short

The Summer Split schedule is expected to be shortened this year in order to prepare for the Hangzhou Asian Games in September, where League of Legends and other esports titles will be featured. It is rumored that the LPL will play four series every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Doinb highlighted the importance of quarantine for players, stating that without completing the mandatory quarantine, they will be unable to participate in the Summer Split. This means that promoting academy teams to play in the summer won’t be feasible either.

Uncertain Participation in MSI 2022

The LPL representatives are unsure if they will be able to compete at MSI 2022. The upcoming LPL playoffs have already been delayed and will be played remotely, adding further complications to the situation.

MSI 2022 is scheduled to take place in Busan, South Korea, starting on May 10. A total of 11 regional representatives, including the LPL champions, are expected to compete.
