Doinb reflects on Worlds 2019 victory: “I believe it’s a familiar situation currently as this could be my final match”

League of Legends World Champion Doinb Hints at Possible Retirement

Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang, the star mid laner and 2019 League of Legends world champion, hinted that he may retire following his recent success on the international stage. In a post-game press conference, Doinb was asked what he would tell his former self now that he has won the Summoner’s Cup.

The Possibility of Retirement

“I think it’s actually a very similar scenario right now because this might be my last game,” Doinb replied. “If I could go back and tell the old Doinb at the start of the year, I would tell him to not give up, there is always hope.”

Considering Retirement Before 2019

In an interview with ESPN, Doinb revealed that he had contemplated retirement before the start of 2019. However, he ultimately decided to continue playing for FunPlus Phoenix (FPX) due to encouragement from his wife, Li “Umi” Youzi.

FPX and LPL Fans Bid Farewell

The possibility of Doinb’s retirement is bittersweet for FPX and LPL fans. Doinb played a crucial role in helping his team secure their second consecutive World Championship title for China. It is understandable for a player to want to end their career on a high note.

Looking Towards the Future

Although it would make sense for Doinb to continue striving for success, especially with Worlds 2020 taking place in China, his decision to retire is entirely up to him. Regardless of his choice, Doinb has already cemented himself in history as one of the greatest mid laners to have ever played at Worlds.
