Doinb reflects on his demanding training routine at Worlds 2019

Chinese and South Korean League of Legends players have intense practice schedules

In a recent interview, Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang confirmed that Chinese and South Korean League of Legends players have busy practice schedules.

The former FunPlus Phoenix player revealed the grueling training regimen his team followed during Worlds 2019, where they emerged as champions after defeating G2 Esports in the grand final. According to Doinb, FPX played for 14.5 hours a day and slept for only five and a half hours each night.

Doinb’s Daily Schedule at Worlds 2019

Doinb shared his daily schedule during Worlds 2019:

  1. 10:30pm-3:30am: Rank
  2. 3:30am-9:00am: Sleep
  3. 9:30am-1:00pm: Rank
  4. 1:00pm-2:00pm: Lunch
  5. 2:00pm-5:00pm: Scrims
  6. 5:00pm-7:00pm: Dinner
  7. 7:00pm-10:00pm: Scrims

Additionally, Doinb visited the hospital for a full body check-up every year.

The Demanding Training Schedule

During their 14.5 hours of training, FPX spent considerable time playing solo queue from 10:30pm to 3:30am and from 9:30am to 1:00pm. They also dedicated six hours to scrims every day, with a break for lunch and dinner in between.

The Gap Between Western and Eastern Regions

This intense training schedule highlights the gap between the Western and Eastern regions in esports. Many believe that the success of Eastern regions on the international stage can be attributed to the sheer number of games they play each day. Doinb and FPX’s commitment to sacrificing more than 14 hours a day for practice supports this viewpoint.

The West’s Approach to Work

Despite differences in work culture, players have praised the West’s approach to work. Jo “CoreJJ” Yong-in recently acknowledged the improvement in North America’s infrastructure, which has prevented player burnout. However, he also emphasized that Western players must match at least 90 percent of the practice put in by Eastern players to achieve international success.
