Discover the Reasons behind a Third-Tier Amateur LoL Team Bootcamping in Korea

German League of Legends Team Heading to Bootcamp in Korea

The ESL Meisterschaft, Germany’s national League of Legends league, is a long way from Riot’s EU League Championship Series studio in Berlin. However, Aequilibritas eSports, a team from the Meisterschaft, has announced that they will be sending their League of Legends team to bootcamp in Korea.

Bootcamping in Korea is a common practice among top LoL teams, especially those competing in Worlds. Despite not being a World Championship-caliber team, Aequilibritas eSports has decided to make the trip to Korea, causing a lot of discussion on Twitter.

Talking to the Head Coach

We spoke to AeQ head coach, Alexandre Weber, to get his opinion on the team’s decision and what they hope to achieve from the bootcamp.

How did you make the decision to bootcamp in Korea?

Weber: We were given the opportunity to bootcamp in Korea and our manager decided to take it. In esports, learning from the Koreans is something every team wants to experience.

Do you have contacts in Korea? What about an itinerary or scrim schedule?

At the moment, we don’t have anything planned. We just know that we have the possibility to go there. The idea is to have a two-week team building trip and experience Korean culture while also playing soloq. It can create a good foundation for the team and the players’ careers.

Goals and Preparation

What are your goals for the bootcamp? How will you measure success?

I think a successful bootcamp would be achieving the next steps, such as getting into the Challenger Series and creating a foundation for the players’ careers. We believe that every bit of information we learn in Korea will be an investment that will pay off in the future.

Are you doing anything to prepare the players and staff for the environment?

There will be preparations, but we need more details before we can make specific plans. Right now, our focus is on winning the ESL Meisterschaft and getting into the Challenger Series. However, we will make sure the players are psychologically prepared for the stress, jet lag, and training.

Addressing the Critics

There has been a lot of conversation on Twitter about this. Anything you’d like to say to the pundits and fans?

AeQ has carefully considered the decision to bootcamp in Korea and believes it will benefit everyone involved. We appreciate the support from the fans and the financial advice we’ve received on Twitter. This will undoubtedly be a cool experience and a great opportunity for everyone to learn.

Bootcamping in Korea can be risky, but if the team is prepared, it can also be a valuable learning experience. Only time will tell how beneficial this trip will be for Aequilibritas eSports.

Update 5pm CT, April 19: Weber has informed us that the organization does have plans for the bootcamp, but they are unable to share the details at this time.
