Dignitas jungler, River, unable to participate in first week of LCS Lock In tournament due to COVID-19 protocols

Dignitas Jungler River Unavailable for LCS Lock In Tournament Due to COVID-19

Dignitas announced that its newly signed jungler, River, will not be able to participate in the first week of this year’s LCS Lock In tournament. The organization attributed River’s unavailability to enter the United States on time to issues related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Dignitas, “Due to ongoing issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, River has not been able to enter the US, and will not be able to compete in the first week of the LCS Lock In.” Last week, the LCS decided to conduct the group stage of the Lock In event remotely due to a surge in COVID-19 cases in California.

River, who joined Dignitas in November, played for PSG Talon last season and represented the team in both the Mid-Season Invitational and the World Championship as the top seed from the PCS region. Dignitas has not provided a specific timeline for River’s debut in the LCS but confirmed that he will miss the first week of the Lock In tournament. If he only misses the first week, he could potentially make his season debut on Jan. 21 during the second week of the tournament.

In the absence of River, Dignitas will field eXyu, their Academy-level jungler, during the first week of the Lock In tournament. eXyu previously played for Cloud9’s Amateur squad in the 2021 season. Dignitas will kick off their 2022 season on Jan. 15 against Team Liquid, while the LCS Lock In tournament will commence on Jan. 14.
