Despite nerfs, one League of Legends champion remains with a 90 percent pick-ban rate at MSI 2023

Mid-Season Invitational 2023: Vi Reigns Supreme with 92.5% Pick and Ban Rate

The ongoing Mid-Season Invitational 2023 tournament for League of Legends has witnessed the participation of 79 different champions. However, it is Vi who stands out with an astonishing pick and ban rate of 92.5%. This makes Vi the only champion to surpass the 90% threshold after 19 series of MSI 2023, as reported by Leaguepedia. Adding to her dominance, Vi also boasts one of the highest win rates in the tournament at 57.1%.

These remarkable statistics for Vi may come as a surprise to some, considering the recent nerfs she received in Patch 13.7. The update weakened her Q ability and tweaked her E ability, reducing its basic damage but increasing the AD and AP converters. Given that these are Vi’s core abilities and she usually builds as a tank, many expected her popularity to decline, particularly in MSI 2023, which is played on Patch 13.7.

However, such predictions have proven to be completely wrong. With Vi leading the pick and ban rate charts and her aggressive playstyle, she is guaranteed to dominate the jungle position throughout the tournament. And with no anticipated nerfs for Vi in the near future, she is likely to remain a favorite among junglers even after the summer, despite significant upcoming changes to the gameplay.

Out of all the champions in the tournament, only three have managed to exceed an 80% pick and ban ratio—K’Sante, Rakan, and Annie. They currently hold rates of 84.9%, 81.1%, and 81.1%, respectively.
