Deft’s Sole Focus is Not Retirement

Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu Focused on Worlds 2022 Final, Retirement Plans Put On Hold

Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu’s performance at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship has sparked discussions among fans. However, the player himself is not considering retirement at the moment.

After DRX’s impressive victory against Gen.G in the semifinals of Worlds 2022, Deft was once again asked about his retirement plans. But he dismissed the questions and stated that he is solely focused on the final and giving his best in that match. He emphasized that he is not thinking about next year.

Deft has been a fixture in the League of Legends scene since his debut in 2013 with MVP Blue. Throughout his career, he has represented prominent Korean and Chinese organizations, including Samsung Blue, EDward Gaming, KT Rolster, and now, DRX.

Over the years, Deft has made it to the playoffs of Worlds multiple times. He reached the semifinals in 2014 and the quarterfinals in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2021.

Now, he has an opportunity to win the Summoner’s Cup with DRX. However, he will face a tough challenge in T1, led by three-time Worlds winner Faker.

T1 will not be an easy opponent for Deft and DRX. It has been 447 days since the Korean AD carry last defeated T1 on Aug. 15, 2021, during the 2022 LCK Summer Split.

The Worlds 2022 final is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7pm CT.
