Cryin Leaves RNG, Embarks on Free Agency Journey

Yuan “Cryin” Cheng-Wei Leaves RNG

Yuan “Cryin” Cheng-Wei, the mid laner for Royal Never Give Up (RNG), is now a free agent. The 21-year-old’s contract with RNG has expired, and he is officially an unrestricted free agent, according to an announcement on Weibo. Cryin joined the team in April 2020 and played a crucial role in their success in 2021. With Cryin dominating the mid lane, RNG won the LPL Spring in April and the Mid-Season Invitational in May.

However, RNG’s performance declined in the second half of the season, finishing out of the top four in LPL Summer and being eliminated in the quarterfinals of Worlds. Despite this setback, Cryin surprised everyone with his Annie pick, a champion that hadn’t been played in international tournaments for six years.

First Roster Change for RNG

This is the first roster change for RNG since the start of the free agency period in November. The team now has only seven players on its roster. It is uncertain whether substitute mid laner Zhang “Yuekai” Yue-Kai will take over Cryin’s position or if RNG will look for a replacement in the transfer market.

Future Opportunities for Cryin

Having contributed to RNG’s two championship wins in 2021, including one overseas, Cryin is likely to receive offers from top LPL organizations in the coming weeks.
