A Breakdown of SKT at MSI
Introduction:
In this article, we will be breaking down the top team at MSI, SKT.
Players
1- The True Carry.
The True Carry is the player that drives and influences the game the most for his team. It might not necessarily be the player with the most kills, gold, or damage. In the case of SKT, it is Faker, who demands a lot of attention from the enemy team and creates opportunities for his teammates to excel. When Faker is not playing, the focus shifts to MaRin and WolfBang.
2- The Star Players.
The Star Players are the players that the team revolves around, strategically predisposed to certain playstyles. For SKT, Faker and MaRin are the Star Players.
3- The Carries.
The players on the team that are getting the most gold and doing the most damage are the Carries. For SKT, it is Faker, MaRin, and Easyhoon.
4- The Role Players.
Role Players do what is needed to win the game and support the Carries. They play secondary roles and contribute to the team’s success. For SKT, Bengi and Bang are the Role Players.
Teams
1- Objectives.
SKT focuses on early dragon control as their win condition. They also rely on Faker’s pressure and Bengi’s ability to disrupt the enemy jungle.
2- Teamplay.
SKT’s teamplay revolves around Faker and MaRin’s aggression, which allows WolfBang to focus on farming and controlling dragon.
3- Style.
SKT plays a cerebral style, adapting to their opponents and being in the right place at the right time. They have pioneered certain ADC-focused compositions that utilize mid-lulu and non-hyper carry champions.
4- Loss-condition.
SKT loses when their jungler is ineffective or when Faker plays off-meta champions. Overcommitting to dragon fights is another common cause of their losses.
5- Preferred compositions.
SKT has several preferred compositions, including “The Bang Gang”, “Tankier-Than-Thou”, “The ‘That’s not Faker'”, and “Tank-a-chuuuuuuuuuuu”. These compositions utilize different champions and playstyles depending on the situation.
Conclusion
SKT is ranked first for their innovative gameplay, ability to adapt, and the skill and resilience of their players. They have defined the tank meta and continue to bring new compositions to the field.
