The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational: Exciting Start and Surprising Upsets
The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) began with an action-packed first day, featuring six thrilling games. One of the standout matches was between European powerhouse G2 Esports and the champions of LCO 2022 Split One, ORDER.
G2 Esports were considered the clear favorites to win against their opponents. However, despite emerging victorious, the European champions faced some unexpected challenges. ORDER managed to secure solo kills on Broken Blade and Caps. Following their defeat, Corporal, the Japanese-Australian support player, shared his thoughts in an interview with Dexerto’s Andrew Amos.
According to Corporal, the game against G2 proved that defeating the European side is indeed achievable. In fact, an upset was possible in the match, but ORDER made too many mistakes that cost them the victory.
Corporal stated, “It was a winnable game, and we showed that multiple times throughout the match. Unfortunately, we made an egregious mistake during the Baron fight, which allowed G2 to take a 3,000 gold lead. If we play more strategically and improve on those areas, we can win these games.”
ORDER was placed in the so-called “group of life,” which includes only three teams, including G2 and NA’s Evil Geniuses. Despite being considered the underdogs from the start, Corporal believes that they have what it takes to advance to the next stage of MSI 2022. He confidently stated, “We will win these games. After playing for five minutes, I just knew it was going to be much easier than I thought.”
Next, Corporal and his team will go against Evil Geniuses. While NA is favored once again, the support player believes that they will come out as the victors. He confidently said, “G2 is better out of those two teams, so I guess Evil Geniuses is going to go down. We’re going to smack them.”
