CONVERGENCE developer shares insights into connection between new Riot Forge game and Arcane

Riot Forge Game CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story Set for Release on May 23

On May 23, the highly anticipated Riot Forge game, CONVERGENCE: A League of Legends Story, will be available to fans of League and Arcane. The game offers players the opportunity to explore a vibrant new Zaun. Developed by Double Stallion, the creators of CONVERGENCE have included several Easter eggs related to the popular MOBA and the animated series. Many are curious to know how Ekko’s game connects to the end of the first season of Arcane.

Eric Angelillo, the creative director and co-art director at Double Stallion, recently spoke with to shed light on this matter. It is worth noting that Riot Games approached the studio in 2019, well before the tenth-anniversary show that left League fans worldwide amazed with exciting news. Even before the announcement of Arcane, Double Stallion had already decided to create a new game set in Zaun, with Ekko as the protagonist.

According to Angelillo, “We loved the setting of Zaun in general, and there was just a lot of interest in doing something that involved time travel and time manipulation. So it was really a match made in heaven really.” However, it’s important to emphasize that this decision was made long before the studio was aware of Arcane’s existence. The announcement of the animated series did not deter Double Stallion from pursuing their original vision.

CONVERGENCE: A Standalone Story within the League of Legends Universe

The development team behind CONVERGENCE worked diligently to incorporate the lore that League fans are familiar with. Angelillo explains that the game tells a standalone story within the universe, happening early in Ekko’s life. The 2D action platformer showcases Double Stallion’s unique portrayal of a young Ekko while maintaining a connection to the lore.

While the game and the animated series may not have a direct narrative link, players will discover numerous Easter eggs in CONVERGENCE that compensate for this. These hidden gems help bridge the gap between the two forms of media. Angelillo assures fans that, “Whether you know Ekko from League or from Arcane, there’s something for you to discover in CONVERGENCE.” Players can look forward to the release of the Riot Forge game on all platforms.
