Continued Widening of East vs. West Gap at MSI 2023 Despite Cloud9’s Aggressive Start against Bilibili Gaming

Cloud9 Defeated by Bilibili Gaming at MSI 2023

During today’s matches at the 2023 Mid-Season Invitational in London, Cloud9 suffered a heavy defeat against China’s Bilibili Gaming. The gap between Eastern and Western teams has widened even further, with Bilibili Gaming dominating the series with a clean sweep.

Cloud9 showed moments of brilliance, particularly in the early stages of each match where they remained aggressive against their opponents from the aggressive Chinese region. However, Bilibili Gaming’s strength in teamfighting and macro decision-making ultimately overwhelmed Cloud9.

In the bottom lane, C9’s AD carry, Kim “Berserker” Min-cheol, stood out for his individual skills and confidence, providing a lifeline for his team. Some well-timed ganks from Robert “Blaber” Huang also contributed to their performance.

Bilibili Gaming’s top laner, Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin, known as Gigabin, was the standout player of the day. With impressive performances on champions like Gnar, Kennen, and Gwen, Bin earned himself the Player of the Series accolade.

Cloud9 now moves to the lower bracket at MSI 2023, becoming the third Western team to be defeated by an Eastern representative. The remaining hope for the LCS lies with Golden Guardians as they face off against JD Gaming in the winners bracket. The match between these two teams is scheduled for tomorrow at 7am CT.
