Concerns escalate as widespread cheating emerges in Riot Games’ titles after a significant cyber attack

New Cheats in Riot Games’ Titles Possible After Source Code Hack

After hackers stole Riot Games’ source code in a recent cyber attack, it is possible that new cheats may emerge in the company’s games. In an update, Riot assured players that they are assessing the impact of the attack on the anticheat systems of their games.

Ransom Demand Rejected by Riot Games

The attackers sent a ransom mail to Riot Games, demanding an unknown amount of money. However, Riot publicly refused to comply with the request. As a result, the stolen source code might appear online, potentially causing significant disruption to Riot and its games.

Possible Risks of Cheating Across All Affected Titles

Riot’s Head of League Studio, Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, warned that there are “meaningful risks” of additional cheating in all affected titles. Riot’s statement also alerted players to the increased likelihood of new cheats emerging due to the exposure of the source code.

In a Reddit post, Meddler reassured players that Riot is working to update the anti-cheat systems with a new system. This update aims to prevent the spread of new cheats and maintain stability in the gameplay.

Impact on League of Legends and VALORANT

While Riot Games has worked on various titles over the past decade, League of Legends and VALORANT have been heavily affected by the cyber attack. However, Riot confirmed that VALORANT’s anti-cheat system was not impacted, alleviating concerns about the integrity of the FPS’ gameplay.

In the coming months, players may encounter an increase in cheaters in League of Legends. Despite Riot’s efforts to find a solution, this may negatively impact the players’ experience.
