Clutch Gaming defeats the new-look C9 roster, asserting a bleak outlook for C9.

Cloud9 Academy Loses Debut Game in NA LCS Summer Split

The Cloud9 Academy roster, consisting of Zach “Sneaky” Scuderi, Nicolaj Jensen, and Andy “Smoothie” Ta, suffered a defeat against CLG Academy. The following day, their new starting roster, composed of ex-Academy players, also lost their debut game in the NA LCS Summer Split to Clutch Gaming.

Earlier this week, Cloud9 made a surprising announcement that their iconic starting roster would be mostly replaced with Academy players Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer, Yuri “Keith” Jew, and Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam. Despite the presence of three LCS legends in the C9 Academy team, they lost their game yesterday, and the new roster suffered the same fate today.

However, it would be an exaggeration to say that there is no hope for Cloud9 or North America’s chances at Worlds. Let’s not jump to conclusions. The new roster might face criticism from fans on social media, but it is important to keep things in perspective.

While it is true that the relatively inexperienced new roster failed to secure a victory, it was not a dominant performance from Clutch Gaming either. Clutch Gaming, an impressive Spring Split team, is considered one of the top four teams in the league.

In the mid-game, Cloud9 managed to gain a lead, and Goldenglue displayed a strong performance against Clutch mid laner Fabian “Febiven” Diepstraten. Despite Goldenglue’s past struggles in the LCS, he held his own against one of the league’s top mid laners.

However, as the game progressed, the team’s lack of experience became evident, leading to mistakes that allowed Clutch Gaming to secure key objectives and ultimately win the game. Overall, it wasn’t a terrible showing, and Cloud9 still looked like an LCS-caliber team, albeit a lower-tier one. Cloud9’s next game is scheduled for tomorrow at 7pm CT against OpTic Gaming.
