Cloud9’s NA dream shattered as Fnatic eliminates them in Worlds semifinals

Fnatic Defeats Cloud9 in Semifinals of League of Legends World Championship

In a stunning upset, Fnatic, the reigning EU LCS champions, defeated Cloud9, the NA LCS favorites, in the semifinals of the 2018 League of Legends World Championship.

Last week, Cloud9 secured a resounding victory against Afreeca Freecs, the LCK’s second seed. Similarly, Fnatic won their series against EDG. Although Fnatic’s win was less convincing than Cloud9’s, it confirmed their status as one of the best teams in the tournament.

However, in their semifinal match, Fnatic completely outclassed Cloud9, sweeping them in a 3-0 victory. While Cloud9 briefly held the lead in the third game, the overall dominance of Fnatic was evident. This result ensures that the west will be strongly represented against Invictus Gaming in the finals.

Despite the loss, Cloud9 supporters should take pride in their team’s achievement, as Fnatic remains the best the LCS has to offer in the Worlds finals.

In terms of draft control, Fnatic had the upper hand throughout the series. The only game they lost was also their least competitive, with Fnatic building a significant gold lead of over 10,000 within 20 minutes. Additionally, Fnatic managed to counter Cloud9’s repeated champion picks with innovative strategies.

With this victory, Fnatic advances to the finals for the first time since season one, marking a significant milestone for the team and western League of Legends. Regardless of the outcome, fans can look forward to an exciting final matchup between Fnatic and Invictus Gaming, two teams outside of the LCK.

The Worlds finals will take place next Saturday at 2:30am CT.
