Cloud9’s Demise as DWG KIA Soars to Lead in 2021 MSI Rumble Stage Day 4

MSI Rumble Stage: Major Upsets and Exciting Matchups

The fourth day of the 2021 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational rumble stage concluded with some surprising results and intense competition. The tournament standings have seen a major shake-up, setting the stage for a thrilling finale.

The top four teams that will move on to the final bracket have almost been determined, but the exact order is still uncertain. Although Cloud9 still has a slim chance of securing a spot, their outlook is not looking favorable.

Stick a Fork in Cloud9

Cloud9’s dreams of advancing to the MSI knockout stage were crushed after a shocking loss to the previously winless Pentanet.GG. This defeat pushed their rumble stage record to an abysmal 2-6, making it highly unlikely for them to make a “miracle run” to the top four.

Despite defeating a tournament favorite, Royal Never Give Up, earlier in the day, C9 couldn’t maintain their momentum against Pentanet’s dominant gameplay. Pentanet’s Chazz and Praedyth showcased their skills, securing an impressive victory against C9. Pabu’s stellar jungle performance and the decisive Infernal Soul capture sealed the win for Pentanet.

Now, Cloud9 faces an almost insurmountable challenge of winning all their remaining games to secure a spot in the knockout stage. They will need assistance from other teams, particularly RNG and Pentanet, in their matches against MAD Lions and PSG Talon.

Pentanet Goes Out with a Bang

Pentanet, the first team to be eliminated from top-four contention, made a statement with their victory over Cloud9. After experimenting with unconventional champion picks throughout the rumble stage, Pentanet drafted a more meta team composition and outplayed C9.

This win holds significant meaning for the Oceania region, as it marks the first time an Oceania team has beaten a major region team at an international event. Pentanet’s triumph has reshaped the tournament’s landscape and proves that the underdogs are capable of surprising the favorites.

DWG KIA Takes the Lead

In the battle for first place, DWG KIA emerged victorious, pushing RNG into second place. After losing to C9, RNG now trails DWG KIA by one game. The upcoming match between RNG and MAD Lions, as well as DWG KIA’s game against Pentanet, will determine the final standings for the rumble stage.

The highly anticipated rematch between RNG and DWG KIA will play a significant role in deciding the seeding for the bracket stage. If RNG wins and both teams finish with an 8-2 record, RNG will take first place due to their 2-0 record against DWG KIA. However, DWG KIA shouldn’t be underestimated after their impressive seven-game winning streak.
