Cloud9 unveils 2022 LCS Academy lineup with Malice joining, confirms Zven’s shared play with K1ng

Cloud9 Unveils 2022 Academy Roster with New Additions

Cloud9 has officially announced its 2022 Academy League of Legends roster. The team has introduced Swedish jungler Malice and revealed the plans for veteran AD carry Zven. With a total of 11 players, Cloud9 will have five players on the LCS lineup and six for the Academy team.

Building the Academy Lineup: Cloud9’s Approach

Nick “LS” De Cesare, the team’s head coach, discussed Cloud9’s strategy for building the Academy lineup in a recent announcement video. He emphasized the goal of creating the best version of the Cloud9 team possible.

“This may seem strange to some, but Riot doesn’t prioritize Academy,” LS explained. “Our focus is on creating the best Cloud9 team.”

In the upcoming 2022 season, four out of the five players from Cloud9’s previous Academy lineup will continue with the organization. Top laner Darshan, mid laner Copy, and AD carry K1ng will all play on the Academy team. Additionally, Isles, the support player, will start the season at the Academy level.

Zven and K1ng: Sharing the AD Carry Position

Zven and K1ng will be sharing the AD carry position for Cloud9 Academy in 2022. Last season, K1ng temporarily joined C9’s LCS roster for nine games during the Summer Split. According to statistics from Oracle’s Elixir, K1ng achieved a KDA of 5.8 during his time in the LCS.

“Zven will have more practice time with the Academy team, including scrimmages against the LCS team,” LS revealed. “K1ng will primarily play in matches but still participate in internal activities. Zven remains the main Academy AD carry.”

LS’s Vision: Internal Practice for Growth

LS, Cloud9’s head coach, expressed his desire for the Academy and LCS rosters to practice against each other internally. This approach aims to foster growth in both teams.

Cloud9 will kick off the season with the annual LCS Lock In tournament on January 14.
