Chovy of Gen.G discusses carrying Korean first seed hopes and compares LPL vs. LCK rivalry advantage

Gen.G’s Chovy Optimistic about 2022 Worlds

One of the most anticipated positions in the esports world is being the number one seed from Korea at the League of Legends World Championship. Korea, known as the strongest region in the game, sends their best team with the expectation of winning the tournament.

This year, the top seed from Korea, Gen.G, is considered a favorite to win it all. They dominated the LCK Summer and are led by Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, a player who has attended Worlds four times without winning it.

Chovy, however, believes that this year may just be his best opportunity to win. He has joined Gen.G after playing for different teams over the past few years and feels confident in their chances.

Although Gen.G has had some struggles at Worlds so far, Chovy remains optimistic. He sees China’s JD Gaming as the strongest team in the tournament but recognizes that there are still many games to be played.

Chovy is particularly intrigued by a potential matchup with JDG’s mid-laner, Zeng “Yagao” Qi. He considers Yagao the most impressive player in the mid lane so far.

While Chovy has had difficulties against Chinese teams in the past, he is focused on their upcoming match against Royal Never Give Up, which could have a significant impact on the standings.

Gen.G’s performance at Worlds has been competitive but not as dominant as expected. Chovy acknowledges that their performance does not reflect their status as one of the favorites but hopes to improve going forward.

Chovy and Gen.G will have their remaining group stage games on Sunday, Oct. 16.
