Team SoloMid Welcomes New Coach Choi “Locodoco” Yoonsup
Team SoloMid (TSM) has appointed Choi “Locodoco” Yoonsup as their new coach. Choi, one of the founding members of TSM, brings vast experience from the Korean and American pro gaming scenes. This is expected to benefit a struggling TSM team, currently ranked fifth in the North American League Championship Series with a 4-4 record.
TSM’s Need for a Coach
Team owner Andy “Reginald” Dinh tweeted that the arrival of the new coach on Tuesday will mark the beginning of their hard work paying off. Dinh has acknowledged the need for a true coach to keep TSM competitive in the League of Legends scene, as teams like Dignitas have expanded their staff and thrived as a result.
The Challenge Ahead
TSM faces a tough challenge this season. Their champion select phases have been disastrous, and they have struggled to find a playstyle that utilizes the talent added in the offseason. With the addition of German jungler Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider and support Nicolas “Gleeb” Haddad, TSM hopes that Choi’s experience and perspective can turn things around.
A Unique Perspective and a Former Relationship
Choi’s experience competing in both the American and Korean pro gaming scenes, along with his fluency in both Korean and English, gives him a unique perspective on the League of Legends pro gaming scene. He also has a previous relationship with Haddad, having coached him in Cloud 9 Tempest last season.
Despite offers from other teams, including the top European LCS team Alliance, Choi chose to join his former squad and be a part of the TSM coaching staff.
A New Era for TSM
Choi joins a coaching staff that includes other ex-TSM players, such as team owner Dinh and former jungler Brian “TheOddOne” Wyllie. Wyllie’s coaching role wasn’t having the desired impact, leading Dinh to bring in Choi. Choi’s coaching career will kick off with a challenging match against the NA LCS defending champions, Cloud9.
