The Changing Metagame of League of Legends
Over the past year, the League of Legends metagame has undergone several shifts. These changes have been driven by the introduction of a new item system and significant alterations to Summoner’s Rift. As a result, players have had to adapt, leading to the emergence of mages as popular picks for the bot lane carry role.
In fact, in League Patch 14.4, three out of the top five choices for bottom lane carries were mages, rather than the traditional attack damage-focused champions. Swain, Seraphine, and Twisted Fate saw a surge in win rates, according to U.GG, a stats tracking site for League. The only two marksmen in the top five were Nilah and Senna, who are considered unconventional choices for AD carry.
