League of Legends: Hidden Kalista Mechanic Revealed
It has been eight years since Kalista was introduced as a new champion in League of Legends. However, experienced players are still discovering unique mechanics that can prove helpful during skirmishes in the bottom lane or in late-game teamfights.
During a recent stream, popular League content creator and former pro Caedrel revealed a hidden Kalista mechanic to former TSM superstar AD carry Doublelift. The two were watching a Champions Queue match featuring players such as Knight, JackeyLove, 369, and Yagao.
According to Caedrel, the Spear of Vengeance can reset Kalista’s Rend ability while killing a ward. This allows her to use and reset the ability without actually killing a unit. He demonstrated this mechanic in a game where a Kalista was pursuing a Swain but falling behind due to a difference in movement speed. Despite having some spears left, she managed to pull off this hidden trick.
Normally, Kalista’s Rend ability resets when it kills a unit, whether it’s a minion, champion, or neutral monster. However, in this case, Kalista auto-attacked a visible ward twice while hopping towards the Swain. As her final auto-attack was about to kill the ward, she activated her Rend.
This not only slowed down the Swain but also reset the ability’s cooldown when the ward died. This allowed Kalista to catch up to the Swain and secure the kill. Caedrel and Doublelift realized that the ability is coded in a way that if anything dies while Rend is being cast, it will reset the cooldown. For example, if a Kalista times her final auto-attack on a tower with her E, she can instantly reset the cooldown because the game recognizes the tower’s destruction.
This hidden mechanic adds depth to Kalista’s gameplay and can provide players with an advantage in certain situations. It’s always exciting to see veteran players discover new tricks in a game that has been around for so long.
