C9’s Quest for Answers Leads Down Unproductive Paths

C9 Struggling in the Split

C9’s slow start to the split has been marked by their struggle to win games, often playing from behind. While the shotcalling aspect is not a problem, they are facing issues with their pick and ban strategy.

Kogmaw in Game 1 and 2

In their first competitive game, C9 made the mistake of picking Kogmaw. This champion requires high concentration and assistance from the jungler to reach level 16. Even after reaching level 16, skill shots are crucial for dealing damage. Despite winning one game and losing the other, Kogmaw is not ideal for C9’s current situation.

Lucian’s Struggles in Game 5

Throughout this split, Lucian has been consistently losing games. With the nerf to the Infinity Edge, Lucian’s itemization is not favored in the meta. This is why other ADCs, such as Graves, would perform better for C9.

Unfavorable Combination in Game 3

The composition of Ezreal, Viktor, and Ryze in one team is not ideal. These champions require a significant amount of gold to be effective. Winning the game with this composition relies on securing every single CS and creating a huge snowball in all lanes. The chances of achieving this are very low, and in professional games, one lane is usually starved of gold. Since none of these champions can afford to be starved, the game is lost in the pick and ban phase.

If C9 is struggling so much in picks and bans, it’s difficult to imagine what will happen when they actually win that phase. Good luck to C9.
