C9 Aims to Break One of Faker’s Long-standing LoL Worlds Streaks in Swiss Stage

Faker Looks to Maintain his Undefeated Streak Against NA Teams at Worlds

Legendary T1 mid laner Faker has never lost a game to a North American team at the League of Legends World Championship in his 11-season career. However, Cloud9 aims to change that.

During the second day of the Worlds Swiss stage, both T1 and Cloud9 ended with a 1-1 record. They were subsequently drawn against each other for their third round match. Despite their even records, it’s difficult to bet against Faker when he faces a North American team on the Worlds stage.

Throughout Worlds, Faker boasts an undefeated 12-0 record against NA teams, dating back to his first win against an LCS squad at Worlds 2013. You can watch the epic 34-minute group stage victory against TSM here.

Just recently, Team Liquid came close to breaking Faker’s streak against NA teams. In the opening game of the Swiss stage, they had T1 on the ropes but ultimately lost due to a game-winning push by T1 during a forced skirmish.

Relentless Winning Streak Against NA Teams

If we expand Faker’s record against NA teams outside of Worlds, he boasts an astonishing 27-1 score. This includes matches from tournaments like the Mid-Season Invitational, the 2014 All-Star tournament, and various IEM tournaments. Faker’s only loss to a North American team occurred at MSI 2016 when CLG defeated SKT in a hard-fought group stage match. You can watch that match here.

When it comes to playing against Cloud9, Faker has never lost. He holds a perfect 7-0 record against C9 dating back to 2014. The only North American team he has more individual wins against is TSM, against whom he has eight victories.

On Sunday, Oct. 22, Cloud9 will have the opportunity to dismantle Faker and end his undefeated streak against NA teams at Worlds. The match will be a best-of-one game, kicking off the day’s schedule.
