Bwipo discusses Fnatic’s lockdown experience, triumph over SK Gaming in 2021 LEC Spring Split playoffs

Fnatic Top Laner Bwipo Talks Recent Achievements and Challenges

Fnatic’s top laner, Bwipo, sat down with to discuss their recent success in the LEC and their first best-of-five series in the Spring Split playoffs.

Bwipo shared the team’s experience dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak during the last superweek. Both Fnatic support Hylissang and coach Tolki tested positive for the virus, resulting in the team being quarantined.

“Ultimately, it split us apart,” Bwipo explained. “Social distancing made it harder for us to connect, and playing from home is different than playing in the office. It’s harder to feel connected to the game and fully immersed in it.”

Bwipo also discussed their recent best-of-five series, where they defeated SK 3-1 and advanced to the next phase of the losers bracket.

“Our stats guy, Tolki, helped us understand how SK was winning games,” Bwipo stated. “We noticed that when their bottom lane was losing, it significantly impacted their chances of winning. So we focused on strengthening our bottom lane strategy.”

Fnatic finished the regular season of the 2021 LEC Spring Split with a 9-9 record, placing them in fifth position. With their victory against SK, they have secured a spot in the next round where they will face the loser of the G2 Esports vs. Schalke 04 match.
