Broken Blade’s crucial play at LoL Worlds 2023 rescues G2 in their match against Weibo

G2 Esports Remains Undefeated at League of Legends World Championship

After two days of heated battles at the Summoner’s Rift, G2 Esports stands as the sole undefeated Western team at the 2023 League of Legends World Championship. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik’s exceptional performance.

G2, the first seed from the Europe, Middle East, and Africa region, triumphed over Dplus KIA from the League Champions Korea and Weibo Gaming from the League Pro League. However, their victory against Weibo Gaming could have turned into a disaster if it weren’t for the quick reactions of BrokenBlade, one of Europe’s top laners.

During the final teamfight, both WBG and G2 found themselves engaged in a fierce battle on the bottom side of the map. With nearly 50 kills racked up in a 38-minute match, both teams were determined to come out as the victor, despite being battered and bruised.

While the frontline champions endured the onslaught of damage, WBG jungler Wei “Weiwei” Bo-Han attempted to take down G2’s star AD carry, Steven “Hans Sama” Liv. However, BrokenBlade’s well-timed ultimate ability as Yone thwarted Weiwei, preventing him from reaching his target and ultimately saving the game for G2.

Had Weiwei successfully landed Vi’s Q ability on Hans Sama, it would have allowed Xiaohu to deal a potentially fatal blow as Azir. Without consistent damage, the teamfight would have likely shifted in WBG’s favor, potentially leading to a victory for the representatives of the League Pro League.

By falling back and protecting his ADC, BrokenBlade turned the tide of the teamfight, giving Hans Sama the opportunity to secure a swift triple kill and claim victory. With this crucial win, G2 now has a chance to qualify for the knockout stage of Worlds, while WBG must fight to stay in the competition in the next round.

Catch BrokenBlade and the rest of G2 in action as they face off against Gen.G tomorrow at 2am CT.
