Broken Blade discusses his role and Schalke 04’s underwhelming 2021 Summer Split

Schalke 04 Struggles in LEC Summer Split

The 2021 LEC Summer Split hasn’t been kind to Schalke 04 fans. The team was eliminated from playoff contention after losses to Excel Esports and Astralis in week seven. Despite this setback, Schalke 04 still has three more games to play and hopes to end the year on a high note with a win.

Talented Top Laner Broken Blade Expresses Disappointment

In an interview with , Schalke 04’s top laner Broken Blade shared his disappointment with the team’s performance this season. He had higher expectations for the team and was confident they would do well. However, they didn’t secure many wins in the beginning, which affected their momentum.

Inability to Translate Scrims Success to Stage Wins

Schalke 04 lost several games they shouldn’t have and struggled to replicate their success in scrims during on-stage matches. Financial issues from the soccer team’s struggles in the Bundesliga forced Schalke 04 to sell its spot in the LEC for next year, but Broken Blade believes this didn’t significantly contribute to the team’s decline in performance.

A Learning Experience for Broken Blade

This season has been a learning experience for Broken Blade, as it’s one of the first times he’s been on a bottom-three team. He’s also taking on the role of guiding younger players, such as rookie mid laner Nuclearint. Broken Blade feels a responsibility to be a good teammate and set a positive example for Nuclearint’s development, drawing parallels to his own experience with Bjergsen on TSM.

Remaining Games and Tough Competition

With three more games on the horizon, Broken Blade and the team aim to end the summer on a positive note with a win or two. However, they will face formidable opponents in Team Vitality, G2 Esports, and Fnatic when the LEC returns on Friday, July 30.
