Briar Makes a Splash on the Rift with a Disappointing LoL Win Rate—Should We Have Expected Otherwise?

Briar’s Disappointing Debut in League of Legends Jungle

Briar made her first appearance in League of Legends with the release of Patch 13.18 on Sept. 13. However, she has quickly earned the title of the worst jungler in the game, with a dismal 35.81 percent win rate. This is according to stats site U.GG, which also reveals her extremely low pick rate of 2.8 percent.

An Expected Outcome?

It may not come as a surprise that Briar’s early stats are disappointing. New champions in League of Legends often struggle to perform well immediately after their release. But in the case of Briar, there may be more to it.

The opinions about Briar’s performance are divided among players. While some on Reddit acknowledge that her poor win rate is expected due to her novelty, they also point out her challenging abilities.

Timing is Everything

One player summed up the key issue with Briar: “She has an int button on W/Ult, no innate regen, and requires knowing when to pull out of a fight to be effective. Unsurprising she seems so bad for novices.” Indeed, timing and knowing when to retreat are crucial for success with Briar.

Riot Games’ Warning

Riot Games developers themselves have warned players about Briar. In her Champion Spotlight, David “Phreak” Turley explained that Briar is designed around the idea of losing control to gain power and relies heavily on timing rather than complicated mechanics.

Overall, it seems that most players are still learning how to effectively play Briar and master her abilities. However, it’s possible that she may require some adjustments from Riot Games in order to make a significant impact on the meta.
