Big Ten Network to Broadcast Collegiate League of Legends

Collegiate League of Legends Comes to Television through Partnership between Riot Games and Big Ten Network

The exciting world of Collegiate League of Legends will soon hit the TV screens, as Riot Games and the Big Ten Network join forces. Starting from January 30th, a dozen schools from the Big Ten conference will battle it out in this new league. And the best part? The finals will be televised on the Big Ten Network, available in millions of homes across North America.

The participating universities in this league are Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers, and Wisconsin. The teams will be divided into east and west conferences, competing in best-of-three round robin matches. The top four teams from each conference will then move on to the single elimination playoffs.

While details about the prize pool remain undisclosed, every player in this league will receive a $5,000 scholarship payment just for participating.

Both the Big Ten Network and Riot Games will broadcast the league online through their respective platforms. All matches will be played from home until the finals take place on March 27th.

This partnership between BTN and Riot Games builds on their successful collaboration at the BTN Invitational in Boston last March, where Ohio State clashed with Michigan State.

This exciting venture is just one example of the growing prominence of collegiate esports. It will be the second televised event in this field, following Blizzard’s Heroes of the Dorm, which was broadcast on ESPN2 in 2015 and 2016.

The Collegiate Starleague, a major organizer of college esports, already hosts competitions in eight games, including the recent addition of Madden to their lineup.
