Professional League of Legends player shares emotional video after a devastating loss
Many people may debate whether eSports players should be called “athletes,” but one thing is for certain: they experience the same emotional investment and disappointment as traditional athletes. This was evident in a recent YouTube video posted by professional League of Legends player Yoon Sub “Locodoco” Choi, which has since gone viral.
A journey of ups and downs
Choi has faced numerous hardships throughout his career. Since 2011, he has played for six different professional teams in both North America and Korea, always searching for a place to call home in the League of Legends community. Despite these challenges, Choi is known for his sense of humor and hard work, often connecting with fans through vlogs and streams.
A dream shattered
Things were looking up for Choi in September when Maximum Impact Gaming selected him to create a dream team. This team, now known as Quantic Gaming, moved to California to compete for a spot in the highly popular League of Legends Championship Series. After settling in, Choi and his team were on track to secure a top three finish in the Spring Promotional Tournament.
Disaster strikes
Despite an early 2-0 lead, Quantic Gaming’s performance took a turn for the worse. Choi describes the experience in his vlog, stating that they “played like shit” in the final three games, ultimately leading to their failure to qualify for the North American Championship Series.
In his video, Choi expresses his internal struggle with whether to continue playing. This is a decision many athletes face after a season-ending defeat, as their entire life revolves around their sport. Choi contemplates his future, considering the possibility of going to college and even joking about getting a nose job for Christmas.
A promise for the future
Choi ends his video on a hopeful note, promising to work hard if he decides to continue playing and regain his former success. But for now, he remains uncertain about his path forward.
