Bae “Bang” Jun-sik Announces Retirement from League of Legends
Bae “Bang” Jun-sik, former world champion, has officially announced his retirement from professional League of Legends after almost a decade of competing. This decision comes as he prepares to fulfill his requirements in the Korean military service, which is mandatory for South Korean male citizens aged 18 to 28.
In a heartfelt post on social media, Bang expressed his gratitude for the valuable relationships, cherished memories, and numerous accomplishments he has gained throughout his career. He considers these experiences to be blessings in his life.
From NaJin Shield to SK Telecom T1 S: A Remarkable Journey
Bang’s journey began in 2012 when he joined NaJin Shield as the team’s starting AD carry. However, it was not until he signed with SK Telecom T1 S, the sister team of SKT, that he truly made a name for himself. There, he formed a formidable bot lane partnership with Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan and together, they etched their names in history. Following a rule change in the league, they were promoted to the main roster and went on to win back-to-back World Championships in 2015 and 2016.
Struggles and a Return Home
In subsequent years, Bang made a transition to North America, joining 100 Thieves and later Evil Geniuses. However, his success varied during this time. Eventually, he returned to his home region and joined Afreeca Freecs, where his playing career eventually came to an end.
As he looks towards the future, Bang acknowledges that there will be new and different experiences awaiting him. Nevertheless, he will use his past accomplishments as a foundation to propel him forward.
