Arena Online to introduce $1 million amateur League circuit

Arena Online Launches New Amateur Tournament Series with $1 Million Prize Pool

Tournament organizer Arena Online has announced the launch of a new amateur League of Legends tournament series for 2016. The tournament will feature a prize pool of $1 million.

Arena Online, based in Texas, will host four invitationals and two weekly events for amateur players of all levels. The company will individually pair players to ensure fair competition.

The first tournament in the series will be the IndieGoGo Inaugural, a crowdfunded event with a $25,000 prize pool.

Alan Hubbard, CEO of Arena Online, expressed the company’s goal to attract serious beta gamers for the tournament. He stated, “We have other groups testing for bugs daily; we need competitors willing to be the first to test our model for incentivized esports.”

What sets Arena Online apart from other amateur tournaments is the amount of prize money it plans to distribute. While most other tournaments offer virtual currency or small cash prizes, Arena Online is offering a $4,000 cash prize to the winner of its first tournament.

The beta version of the tournament will reward players with Riot Points, but it will switch to cash prizes in 2016 for larger events.

In addition to the tournament series, Arena Online made headlines recently when it merged with professional League team, Team Dragon Knights. The company plans to compete in the North American Challenger Series in Spring 2016.
