Akshan to be temporarily disabled for 2021 LEC Summer Split playoffs

League of Legends New Champion, Akshan, Disabled for European LEC Playoffs

League of Legends’ latest champion, Akshan, won’t be joining the European pro scene just yet. Riot Games’ European head of esports, Maximilian Peter Schmidt, announced today that Akshan will be disabled for the LEC playoffs. This decision is based on LEC rules that restrict the use of new champions released during the playoffs patch. As a result, Akshan will not be available for next week’s matches.

According to Schmidt, LEC teams were given the option to have Akshan available during the playoffs since he will be enabled for Worlds 2021. However, the majority of teams declined this opportunity.

Although Akshan has yet to see competitive play, he has been underperforming in solo queue. Riot has already released two micropatches to buff the mid laner, with the first patch being released just one day after his debut. The second buff, released yesterday, increases his attack speed per level and Q damage to minions. These buffs aim to improve his low win rate, provide more split potential, and enhance scaling in the late game.

The LCS has not yet announced whether Akshan will be disabled for their playoffs, which begin on August 7th.
